成立緣起
In 2020, Malaysian registered counsellor Chua Chee Heng, driven by deep concern for the sexual minority community, began offering counselling services in his personal capacity, focusing on issues such as AIDS, online fraud, coming-out pressure, and self-identity. At the same time, he discovered that many LGBTQ+ individuals were unable to live openly and freely due to long-term societal repression and misunderstanding.
In February 2023, he rally a group of volunteers with knowledge and background in sexual minorities and provided them with six months of professional knowledge and listening skills training. In July of the same year, the LUU Peer Support Service Hotline was officially launched, providing two hours of free call-in service every week.
Today, Life Under Umbrella not only provides individual counselling, but has also gradually expanded into a community peer support system, providing a warm and safe space for Malaysian sexual minorities who are isolated and repressed.
Our Core Values and Goals
In Malaysia, it is often difficult to openly discuss sexual minority issues; sexual minorities often need to spend more time trusting helpers.
When sexual minorities seeking help encounter unsympathetic helpers, they may feel hurt and bewildered. The relationship between helpers and sexual minorities often involves multiple vulnerabilities.
Therefore, it is extremely important to establish a beautiful, warm, and friendly place in Malaysia where sexual minorities can "feel at ease, reassured, and confident" to breathe and express themselves when they encounter life's uncertainties.

Peer Support Hotline (free-of-charge)
Supervised by a Malaysian registered and certified counselor, and led by several volunteers, we provide free consultation services via Zoom Meeting every Monday and Wednesday from 8pm to 10pm .
The topics include:
Coming out, gender/sexual orientation identity;
Love, parent-child relationships;
Emotional distress, depression, anxiety, loneliness;
Self-harming thoughts, bullying, sexual harassment;
Sexually transmitted diseases, recreational medications;
Religious beliefs;
Fraud, etc.
